Well, Boston is alive and in full party mode due to Boston Bruins winning the Stanley Cup. Even though I don’t follow hockey at all, it is pretty cool that they won and I must admit it makes the city a great place to live in at the moment. The weather has been warmer too, so that means I am not a total bitch more time has been spent outdoors instead of stuck inside. Now if only that beach weather would come this way…

So, I wasn’t sure what I was going to write about today but had the urge to write. Good thing I had to go food shopping and it sparked my post for today: shit that annoys me at the grocery store. I am sure some of you sympathize.

1) Aisle Blockers

We all have seen these gems at the grocery store: Talking on their cell phones, reading box labels, or looking for an item way down the aisle all while completely blocking aisle. These people drive me crazy, and I have resisted the urge many times to move them out of the way myself.

2) Terrifying Kids

Now, not being a “kid person” may influence my annoyance about this one but there is nothing worse than being near a kid in the grocery store who is having a complete meltdown. Of course, I get that being a parent is hard work but I guess feel that if you can hear a kid screaming because they can’t have chips throughout the whole store and the temper tantrum lasts more than like, 8 minutes, maybe a parent should take their child outside.

3) Express Lane Abusers

I will admit, that I have gone through the ’12 items or less’ lane with maybe 2 extra before. My number 3 is not those people. Number 3 is about the people that have a grocery cart overflowing with groceries. These people know they have a lot more than 12 items, but just do not care. This just means those of us with a gallon of milk to purchase are shit out of luck.

4) Oops, I forgot…

Have you ever been in the line at the grocery store, your items half on the conveyor belt when the person proclaims, “oh I just have to run and get ___ I’ll be right back!” Yea, this is asinine. If someone forgets something, they shouldn’t be able to hold up the line for 20 minutes for 20 minutes while they go and search for whatever they want.

5) Checking Out.

I feel like every time I go grocery shopping the store has like 1 cashier open. The rest of the ‘open’ lines are self-checkout. Now, in theory self-checkout lines would be a brilliant and time consuming part of shopping … if they actually worked! I am pretty sure 98% of the times I have used a self-checkout machine it has stopped working and turned into a huge fiasco.

I am sure myself and everyone else out there could come up with a few more to add to this list. This list is what I encountered just today while shopping! There is also the customer who holds the line up by sitting there and having a full blown conversation with the cashier. Or what about the coupon-crazy lady? I am all for the extreme-coupon craze and can appreciate a good savings – but if someone is going to spend 30 minutes organizing and using their coupons; then maybe they need to open a separate line. And of course, I forgot to mentions the gems that decide to wait until their entire order is bagged to deem it necessary to ‘put a couple things back’…

Am I forgetting anything? What annoys you most about food shopping?

Life is not guaranteed. We all know this, yet we all take life granted sometimes. I know I do…

Today is different though. As I was fighting with the letter ” t ” on my keyboard, swearing up a storm and getting completely agitated – and actually letting out a big scream of frustration – I then stopped. I stopped and took a deep breath and just took a moment. This little moment caused me to realize how insane it was that I was getting so aggravated over something so little and meaningless. I then thought about, and you know what? I do that a lot. I get so caught up in the moment that I let the little things completely take over and turn my mood foul. So what if the dishes weren’t done. So what if the living room was left a mess. In the grand scheme of things, it really doesn’t matter all that much.

What does matter is that I am alive today. I am happy and am surrounded by people who love me with all their heart and soul. More importantly, I have my health. It seems lately that a bit of health issues have come up in the blog world, ranging from life threatening to lifestyle changing. Thankfully, I don’t have any major health issues and consider myself, for the most part, healthy. But I take it for granted every single day, and that needs to stop. I should be grateful that I can eat what I want, go where I want to go, and exercise however and whenever I want. I shouldn’t take advantage of all the things I can do, and I should be mindful of how I am treating my body… something I can admit to not always doing. I should be thankful that my family can afford to have food on the table and clothes on our backs. I should be thankful that Tommy comes home from work every night – and he is safe and sound. And I shouldn’t complain about not having friends – and be thankful for those that I do have. I shouldn’t take my parents for granted, and one day they won’t be here… I should call them more.

I could probably go on and on about what I should and shouldn’t do — but I wont… Life is too short to focus on the have and have nots. Instead, I am going to be around my family and be extra thankful for my life going to sleep tonight.

When I came across the poster below, it really put everything into perspective for me. As cheesy as it sounds, I don’t think I found this poster by accident. I think it was just the universe trying to tell me a little something…

This poster says it all...

If you were to ask any one person if they are a good driver; they probably wouldn’t hesitate before answering yes. The truth of the matter is that the majority of people that are on the road (legally and illegally) absolutely suck at driving…

Top Annoying Things Bad Drivers Do:

1. The Cell Phone Driver

Now, I am not going to sit here and say that I have never talked on my cell phone while driving because that would be a lie. However, I have only done it when I actually needed to take the phone call, and then pulled over to continue my conversation. Those are the people I am talking about anyway. I am talking about the people that are constantly talking on their cell phones while driving. You will be next to them at a red light while they are talking away – then witness them hang up and make another phone call. Yea, those people. Of course, what kind of list would this be if I didn’t give a shout out to the text-messaging drivers. The ones that are so into texting that they swerve in and out of lanes, sit at green lights, and so forth. Love them.

2. The ‘Im too good’ Driver:

These drivers are real gems. They are the ones that never use a turn signal, drive way too fast, and swerve in and out of lanes on the highway. They obviously think they are too good to follow the rules that everybody has to follow.*also under this annoyance is the genius that leaves their blinker on foreverseems people can’t see that light blinking on their dashboard directly in front their face.

3. Slow in the Fast Lane Driver:

Wouldn’t the road be a wonderful place if we all worked together? Well, it’s not and we don’t. One of the most annoying things a driver can do is stay in the far left lane.. while going obnoxiously slow. Instead of passing the intended car, this driver will stay in the far left lane and just cause a major slow-up. Thanks, buddy.

4. The Parking Guru

We have all been there… searching for a parking spot at the mall or the grocery store and think we see one – that is until we get a closer look and realize the nice driver of the pretty little car felt it necessary to take up two parking spots. Whether the person’s bad parking job was intentional or not, this person still gets the jackass award.

5. The Nose Picker

Let me be perfectly clear about this: I have nothing against someone picking their nose… just as long as I DON’T HAVE TO SEE IT. There is seriously nothing more disgusting than pulling up to a fellow driver and notice that he is mid-mining operation and knuckle-deep in his own nose. It is gross. And there is nothing more annoying…

*Disclaimer – this post is also a whole lot of nothing accompanied by an annoying number of photos. Can’t say I didn’t warn you…

Love the fact that:

– Summer is finally here. Hell freakin yes. I wait for this moment all year long, where I can retire the gloves, scarves, and winter apparel. Where I can leave the house without having to put on 3 pairs of socks and fight with the zipper on my Ugg boots. Flip flops rule.

I love my booze dad.

– I celebrated Father’s Day by doing a whole lot of the following: drinking, eating, more drinking, and then more eating. I think all holidays should be celebrated this way. Needless to say when Tommy’s daughter showed up last night with his ‘gift’ (a specially made cake with whipped cream cheese frosting, strawberries & whipped frosting in the middle, and the moistest vanilla cake I have ever tasted) I nearly lost my drunken’ shit. It was that good.

Love that Massachusetts is so screwed up that it is more beneficial (health insurance wise) to stay unemployed.

– Oh, I also have been thinking about whether or not it is financially “worth” it for us for me to go back to work. (I start classes back up in September) Turns out — it is not. Darn, and I was really hoping to slave away for shit money somewhere.

I love lethal weapons that fit in my purse surprises?!

– Tommy came home the other day with a present for me. Isn’t it cute? Yea, it is just how we roll. Don’t judge.

No, it is not a water gun...

Anyone who has a spoken with me knows me, knows that I am a sarcastic person. I have even been granted the title of a ‘sarcasshole‘ from time to time.

Sarcasm is not telling someone they suck (that would be honesty). Having a comeback for everything said to you is also not sarcasm. For those who are new to earth would like a dose of wiki,

Sarcasm is defined as, “A cutting, often ironic, remark intended to wound. It is a form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule.”

See, right off the bat this definition bothers me. Why? Because it makes anyone who uses sarcasm out to be complete bitch (or jerk) and that really just is not the case (at least with me)  First off, sarcasm has to be used correctly. Secondly, I use sarcasm unknowingly sometimes. If it wasn’t for the BF (who has so nicely pointed it out here and there), I wouldn’t even know I was so freaking sarcastic to begin with. It was one of these “instances” of sarcasm that got me thinking… Is sarcasm a good or bad thing? My answer: Both. To back up my claim, I wanted to write a list of some of the pro’s and con’s of sarcasm. Just to make sure I am not always being a shithead

*Disclaimer: this is only my personal on  my own use of sarcasm – There is a good chance I have no idea what I am talking about*

Pros of Using Sarcasm Correctly:

  • Can be ‘witty, intelligent, and cool’
  • It can be humorous
  • You have to actually have half a brain to use sarcasm
  • You have to be able to think and react quickly
  • If you are surrounded by smart people, people will get your jokes
  • When turned inwardly, sarcasm can make another feel better about being a tool
  • Sarcasm keeps me sane

Cons of Sarcasm (or sarcasm used incorrectly):

  • Can be used to make fun of a person and hurt his or her feelings
  • Can make someone the butt of a joke (sometimes unknowingly)
  • Sarcasm can make a situation worse
  • If you are surrounded by idiots, no one will get your jokes
  • It can be too harsh
  • Can get you in trouble
  • If used wrong can be unwitty, unintelligent, and lame.

Q. What is your opinion on sarcasm? Any pros or cons you would like to add to the list?

Now that the nice weather is here, there are certain places that those close to me can find me if I am… well, hiding.  And with the weather is as nice as it has been (ie: 80’s and sunny) I have been hiding pretty much all weekend…

Here are a few of my recent hiding spots:

1. The Pool

Memorial Day weekend not only honors all those men and women who have fought for our freedoms, but also marks the “beginning” of summer and therefore our pool opening! So, of course I was there bright and early yesterday to get my tan on and enjoy the day poolside with the rest of my family. It was such an amazing day, weather wise, that we all just kind of veged out and took in the sunshine that has been missing for much too long.

=====

2. Backyard BBQ

I love, love bbq’s. Even though I am not a big “meat” person, something about sitting outside in the sun with your family and friends is totally my ideal day. This past Saturday we celebrated my cousin’s graduation (she completed her Master’s program!) with good food and even better company. I don’t see my cousin (on my father’s side) and her family nearly enough, so the last minute party was a pleasant surprise!

=====

Hampton Beach:

What can I say about Hampton Beach? It is absolutely, positively your typical “Jersey Shore” type place – a strip of arcades, food, and drinks! It couldn’t be cheesier and it is a tourist trap to the max, but alas holds a special place in my heart as I would visit here every summer as kid. When we awoke this morning and saw it was hot but mostly overcast, we decided to take the 40 minute drive North and hit beach to partake in it’s opening weekend. We had lunch at the Sea Ketch and then strolled the strip and took in the scenery. The weather North was actually much better than home, so the beach was packed and the place was bustling. I got my mandatory fried dough, hit the taffy shop, and braved the traffic homewards.

Needless to say, the weekend went by much too quickly. The fact that I got more than one day in a row with the BF was really a treat (he is been working like a madman!) and I wish we had just one more day to recover from the weekend itself and just chill out.

Hopefully this great weather continues because I can’t wait to do everything we did this weekend ALL. SUMMER. LONG!

How is it Sunday night already? I feel like this weekend completely flew by, probably because it was a weekend full of friends and fun. But aren’t those the best kind of weekends? Last night, we headed out to a birthday party that was also a pig roast. Yep, a pig roast.

At first, I was a little hesitant of said pig roast. I have only been to one other one, and that was years ago in Puerto Rico and it was a bit more of cultural experience than anything. Last night, however, it was not cultural. It was to eat! (I did not partake the eating of the animal and not because I am a vegetarian or anything – I am not)

Regardless of the roasting, it still was quite a fun night. There were two fires going (and thank goodness there was because it was seriously freezing! It is the middle of May and I had 2 coats on, gloves, and my scarf! I really hope it warms up soon…) with great friends and good conversation all around.

—–

Then today we had a wedding to attend. Our neighbors, who are in their 60’s, decided to go before their friends and family and tie the knot! I thought it was so cute when that they decided to marry, regardless of their age and sadly failing health, and was touched to be a part of their special day.

It was so refreshing to see these two people so in love. Lately, all I hear in regards to marriage is how the divorce rate is rising and marriage as we know it isn’t working for a lot of people. Even in my personal life, being with someone who has been married before, many conversations about marriage and love have taken place. Seeing these two people so in love and devoted to each other, and taking their vows in their church was quite heartwarming.

It also got me thinking about why marriage today is not working for so many couples out there? Is it pressures from other aspects of their lives like financial or is it personal – like more and more couples are just ‘growing‘ and therefore lives are taking different paths. Personally, I don’t think people try hard enough to save their marriages. I know this is a bold statement – and just my opinion- but I feel like our society is so quick to give up on something that proves difficult or not easy as pie. Regardless of the reasons, it saddens me… Hopefully love and marriage will once again prevail.
